How To Make Your Vape Coils Last Longer
If you vape regularly, replacing coils too often can become expensive and frustrating. A burnt coil affects flavour, vapour production, and overall vape performance. The good news is that a few simple habits can dramatically increase the lifespan of your vape coils.
Here are the best ways to keep your coils lasting longer and your vape tasting fresh.
Prime Your Coils Properly
One of the biggest mistakes many vapers make is using a brand-new coil immediately after installing it. Before vaping, always add a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton inside the coil.
Once installed, fill the tank and allow it to sit for around 5–10 minutes. This process is called priming and helps prevent dry hits and burnt cotton.
Avoid Chain Vaping
Taking multiple puffs one after another can overheat the coil before the wick has enough time to absorb more e-liquid.
When the wick dries out too quickly, the cotton begins to burn, which permanently damages the coil.
Leaving a few seconds between puffs helps keep the wick fully saturated and improves coil lifespan.
Use The Correct Wattage
Every vape coil has a recommended wattage range printed on the side.
Vaping above the suggested range can:
- Burn coils faster
- Reduce flavour quality
- Increase battery drain
- Cause dry hits
For best performance, start at the lower end of the recommended wattage range and slowly increase until you find your preferred balance of flavour and vapour.
Choose The Right E-Liquid
Some e-liquids are much harder on coils than others.
Sweetened dessert and candy flavours tend to leave residue on coils more quickly, causing build-up that shortens lifespan.
If you want coils to last longer:
- Avoid overly sweet liquids
- Use the correct VG/PG ratio for your device
- Keep your tank clean
High VG liquids work best in sub-ohm devices, while higher PG liquids are better suited for pod kits and mouth-to-lung vaping.
Keep Your Tank Topped Up
Allowing your vape tank to run too low increases the chance of dry hits because the wick may no longer stay fully soaked.
Keeping e-liquid above the coil ports helps maintain proper saturation and prevents premature burning.
Clean Your Vape Tank Regularly
Old e-liquid residue can build up inside your tank and affect flavour quality.
Rinsing your tank with warm water between flavour changes or coil replacements helps keep your setup performing at its best.
Signs Your Coil Needs Replacing
Even with proper care, coils eventually wear out.
Common signs include:
- Burnt taste
- Weak flavour
- Reduced vapour production
- Gurgling sounds
- Darkened e-liquid
Most coils last anywhere from several days to two weeks depending on vaping frequency and e-liquid type.
