In the vaping world, there are many different types of electronic cigarettes.
An electronic cigarette (E-cigarette) replicates the feeling of smoking a cigarette. An E-cigarette consists of a clearomiser/atomiser and a battery. The battery provides power and the clearomiser accommodates e-liquid to be evaporated.Â
We have different types of kits depending on the way you would like to vape, this ranges from light, medium and heavy smokers. Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) devices are for those that are smokers and want to quit smoking as this is the closest experience to a classic cigarette. Direct-to-Lung (DTL) devices are for those that are either more advanced users or wanting a shisha like experience.
In this guide, we will help you understand which E-cig is best suited to you giving you the advantages and disadvantages of each type of kit used. In our next blog post, we will help you choose which e-liquid is best for you.
The easiest way to start vaping would be by using a pod-style kit. With this type of kit, you receive a pod and mod (battery) which is a simple plug and play. Most pod systems require you to fill up the pod yourself, however, some brands offer a pre-filled pod. In the box, you normally receive a pod, coil (if compatible), mod and a charging cable.
This type of vaping is great for those looking to quit smoking due to its simplicity of plug and play capability, easiest devices to use as some are activated by inhalation. They are also small, sleek and discreet without producing dense clouds which is great for both use at home and whilst on the go.
The two disadvantages to pod style kits are that you are limited to the choice of flavours (pre-filled cartridge) and battery life is not expected to be great, they are usually between 200 - 650mAh. However, some are around the 700mAh – 1000mAh mark.
Â
Another great way to start vaping is by using a pen-style kit. With this kind of kit, you would receive a tank (most likely MTL), a coil that is pre-installed and a spare in the box, a mod and a charging cable.
Pen Style Kits are perfect for those that want a battery with a larger capacity and have the ability to fill the tank with any flavour of their choosing. In addition to this, you will be able to fully customise your vaping experience with different resistance of coils for your vaping style, different coloured drip tips with certain tanks and the option of controlling your airflow.
A disadvantage to using a pen-style kit is that you will need to know the correct type of liquid to use because if the liquid is too thin, the tank will leak and if too thick, you will burn out your coil.
Another disadvantage is that on certain mods you cannot change the wattage output, this could be somewhat subjective.
Â
Box Style Kits offer a different way of vaping. This is catered for those that are both MTL and DTL vapers, as most tanks feature coils that are both high in resistance (1.8ohm) for MTL users and low resistance coils (0.25ohm) for DTL. This gives the user to experiment and see which they prefer to use. In addition to this, most box style kits are powered with a 18650 battery (not included).
The advantage of this kit is that it gives the option to try out a different vaping experience whether it be MTL to DTL or vice versa. In addition to this, you can experiment with different e-liquids as the coil will be a lower resistance, so you could in fact use thicker liquid.
A disadvantage to using a box style kit is that being a box shape, this tends to be a bit bigger than a pen-style kit. In addition to this you might be required to purchase an 18650 battery separately as this is not included, unless the box mod has an integrated battery. If you require more than one 18650 battery, then you would also need to purchase a charger to charge the batteries externally as charging with a cable is not recommended. This is due to charging the device with a cable (via the USB port on device) might unbalance your batteries and reduce their lifespan Â
We can see above that there is no perfect device for all, but each will have a preference. This is down to vaping styles! If you are trying to do the transition, we highly recommend starting on a pod system kit or pen system kit as these are the easiest to use.
If you want clouds, power and little to no throat-hit, then we recommend box style kits as these are more likely to have a high wattage output.
Don’t quit if the kit you try out doesn’t work for you, there are over thousands of tanks and mods available on the market, we are pretty sure you will find the one best suited to you.
